LOS ANGELES — Nicole Payne made quite an impression in her first ever Pac-12 contest last week, as the senior transfer scored both goals in a 2-1 win over No. 19 Stanford on Friday, earning herself the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Payne, who had one brace during her time at West Virginia, helped USC overcome a 1-0 deficit and move to 1-0 in Pac-12 play.
Payne spent time both on the back line and up top in the game, but made her most impactful contributions on the offensive end where she scored the equalizing goal in the 36th minute and then scored what would end up being the game-winner in the 59th minute.
For the season, Payne is now tied for the team lead with three goals and is third with her six total points. She also scored the game-winner against CSUN earlier in the season
USC continues Pac-12 play on the road this week, heading to Oregon State on Thursday and then to Oregon on Sunday.
