TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Despite holding the Seminoles to a season low in possession, the No. 14 Clemson women’s soccer team (5-3-2) fell to No. 7 Florida State (7-0-2) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The Tigers were unable to record a goal in the first half despite Renee Lyles registering a threatening shot on goal in the ninth minute which was blocked. The Seminoles were able to strike twice in the first half on goals from Jody Brown and Maria Alagoa in the sixth and 30th minute, respectively. Clemson had three shots in the first half compared to Florida State’s six.
Although Clemson controlled possession in the beginning of the second half, the Seminoles would keep their foot on the gas as Jody Brown scored her second goal and fifth point of the day to extend the lead to 3-0 with 26 minutes left in the match.
In the 86th minute, Maria Manousos drew a foul in the penalty box leading to a Clemson opportunity. Makenna Morris deposited a clinical penalty kick into the back of the net to bring the score to 3-1 in the 86th minute, but it was not enough as the Seminoles took the match 3-1. Clemson registered four shots while the Seminoles recorded six in the second half.
The Tigers will return home on Thursday night to take on NC State. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. at Historic Riggs and will be streamed on ACC Network.
