Graduate student Chelsea Domond had two goals and one assist to help Syracuse (8-3-0, 1-2) pick up an ACC victory against visiting Miami (3-3-2, 0-3-0), 3-1, on Sunday at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Domond, redshirt sophomore Ashley Rauch and graduate student Blue Ellis each found the net for Syracuse.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Nine minutes after Miami had tied the score at 1-1, the Orange regained the lead. Domond, who had given the Orange a 1-0 lead, attacked the Hurricane defenders and slid a lead pass to Rauch who finished with her second of the season.
DOMOND GETS THINGS STARTED
Syracuse scored first. Redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey found Domond, who worked into position to get a quality shot off that put the Orange ahead, 1-0, at 23:53. It was Domond’s squad-best fifth goal of the year.
HURRICANES KNOT THINGS UP
The two squads were scoreless for a span of almost 50 minutes of game clock. The shutout stretch ended when Emma Tucker scored for the visitors. Julia Edwards earned an assist and the score was evened, 1-1, at 72:22.
‘CUSE CLOSES IT OUT
Rauch’s tally managed to hand the lead back to the Orange. Just over eight minutes later, Domond found an open Ellis, who pushed forward and picked up her second goal of the year on a left-footed drive. The final tally came with 32 seconds left in the contest.
