Louisville Drops Road Contest to No. 7 Florida State

#2 Virginia

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The University of Louisville women’s soccer team dropped its road contest to No. 7 Florida State, 5-1, Thursday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

After giving the Seminoles the 2-0 lead in the first half, the Cardinals earned a penalty kick which led to a goal from Maisie Whitsett. The goal was Whitsett’s team leading fourth goal of the season and she has scored in back-to-back games for the second time this season.

Whitsett has been involved in 8 of the 10 goals scored by the Cardinals this season.

Just before the half, Louisville saw a chance to tie the match with a shot on goal by Karsyn Cherry but it was saved by Florida State’s goalkeeper.

Florida State pulled away in the second half, scoring three goals to secure the win.

The Cardinals will finish off the week road swing on Sunday with another ranked matchup. The Cardinals will travel to Charlottesville to square off with the second ranked Cavaliers. Louisville and Virginia will face off at 2 p.m. ET and it will be aired on the ACC Network Extra.
