Syracuse (7-2-0, 0-1-0) squares off with the nation’s third-ranked team for the second game in a row when the Orange host #3 North Carolina (7-2-0, 0-1-0) on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m.

The Syracuse-North Carolina Series:

North Carolina has won each of the previous seven meetings with Syracuse. The series opened in 2013 with the Tar Heels claiming a 1-0 triumph. The most recent encounter between the two programs, on Oct. 15, 2020, was captured by North Carolina, 2-0.

Syracuse Status:

Syracuse had its program record-setting, six-game win streak halted by #3 Duke last Friday. The Blue Devils scored in the final two minutes and

won, 1-0.

Graduate student Chelsea Domond and Erin Flurey have four goals apiece to lead the Orange offense. Syraucse has tallied 17 goals this fall, the best single-season mark for the Orange since 2017 (18).

Freshman netminder Shea Vanderbosch has continued to excel for the Orange. In addition to posting a 6-1-0 record, Vanderbosch has a goals-against-average of 0.57 and a .867 save percentage. She owns the second-best save percentage in the ACC.

North Carolina Status:

North Carolina opened its season with five straight wins, outscoring the opposition 16-1. The Tar Heels have split four games since, including losses to top 10 foes UCLA and Virginia.

Legendary coach Anson Dorrance is in his 44th season at the North Carolina helm.

Junior Avery Patterson (6 goals, 2 assists) and sophomore Emily Murphy (4 goals. 3 assists) are the top two scorers for North Carolina. Senior Emmie Allen has started all nine games for the Tar Heels, and posted a 0.67 goals-against-average and a .800 save percentage.

Orange 700 Club:

Syracuse has three performers who have logged at least 700 minutes at the nine-game mark of the campaign. Freshman Grace Gillard (781),

graduate student Jenna Tivnan (771) and sophomore Emma Klein (730) are each averaging more than 80.0 minutes of play per contest.

Notable Notes:

  • Domond leads the ACC in shots with 39. Flurey is tied for fifth (35).
  • Syracuse ranks third in the ACC in shots (181).
  • North Carolina and Syracuse rank third (68) and fourth (61), respectively, among ACC squads in corners.
