Wake Forest Sets New Program Record With 13th-Straight Home Victory, Beats George Mason 6-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The No. 1 ranked Wake Forest men’s soccer team (8-0-0, 2-0-0 ACC) recorded a 13th-straight home victory on Tuesday night, downing George Mason (2-4-0, 1-0-0 A-10) 6-1 at Spry Stadium. 

Dating back to a 4-0 victory over William & Mary on Oct. 5, 2021, the Demon Deacons’ 13-match home winning streak sets a new program record for consecutive victories on home soil. 

Wake Forest entered the halftime break up 2-1, as sophomore Leo Guarino scored the first goal of the night in the 27th minute before George Mason struck back in the 42nd. Despite the goal from the Patriots, the Deacs entered the halftime break up 2-1, as junior Garrison Tubbs headed home his first goal of the season just 32 seconds before the break. 

In the opening minutes of the second half, junior Oscar Sears collected his second goal of the season to push the Wake Forest lead to 3-1 before goals from juniors Chase Oliver (57th minute) and Jahlane Forbes (60th minute) and senior David Wrona (72nd minute) closed out the scoring on the night. 

The Demon Deacons will compete in their third ACC match of the season on Saturday night, facing current No. 10 Clemson at Historic Riggs Field in the 52nd all-time meeting between the two sides. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.

In the win the program set a new record for consecutive home victories at 13 matches, surpassing the previous mark that was set through the first 12 home matches of the 2018 season.
