Scholar Athlete of the Week | Diana Brown & Kendra Pasquale

Kendra Pasquale | R-Sr., Soccer | Major: Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology

Diana Brown was selected as the MVP of the Dayton Invitational (Sept. 9-10) after leading the Fighting Illini volleyball team to a 3-0 showing with wins over Missouri State (3-1), Villanova (3-0) and host Dayton (3-0). Brown tallied 116 assists, 21 digs, eight aces and three kills for the tournament. In the Illini’s win over the Flyers, Brown recorded her third double-double of the season and the 43rd of her career, posting 37 assists and 12 digs. Brown, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is working on a master’s degree in community health.

Kendra Pasquale scored the fourth game-winning goal of her career, and her second of the season, to lift the Fighting Illini soccer team to a 1-0 Braggin’ Right win over rival Missouri on Thursday (Sept. 10). In the 24th minute, Maeve Jones headed on a free kick taken by Ella Karolak in the defensive third, which was misplayed by a Missouri defender. Pasquale was first to the loose ball in the Tigers’ box and poked home her team-leading third goal of the season into the bottom left corner, giving Illinois the 1-0 lead which proved to be the game winner. Pasquale, from Naperville,Ill., is majoring in kinesiology with a minor in psychology.
