DeBeau Named Big Ten Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan State women’s soccer player Lauren DeBeau took home Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week accolades following her historic hat trick, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The senior forward led the charge in MSU’s 3-0 victory over Illinois to open Big Ten play on Sept. 18, scoring all three of her goals in a span of 11 minutes and two seconds. The three-goal effort goes down in the Spartan record book as the quickest hat trick in program history. Additionally, DeBeau’s scoring trio comes on the heels of yet another MSU hat trick a week ago by Camryn Evans, who scored three of the four Spartan goals in the upset of No. 19 Colorado on Sept. 11. Both hat tricks mark the first time that different MSU players have recorded three-goal outings in consecutive games.

DeBeau, a native of Shelby Township, Michigan, brings home the first Big Ten weekly accolade of her career, as well as the fifth Big Ten Player of the Week award for Michigan State this season. MSU has already collected the second-most Big Ten weekly honors in a single season with five through this point in 2022 and needs only one more award to match the program record of six set during the 2008 campaign.

The Spartans are rolling with a 6-1-2 overall record coupled with a 1-0 start to Big Ten conference play following the conference opener at Illinois. MSU has opened conference action undefeated in each of the last three seasons and has started 1-0 in B1G games in both seasons of head coach Jeff Hosler‘s tenure.

The Green & White return home to face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes at DeMartin Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 22. Kick time is slated for 7 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium on Old College Field, with the league fixture set for worldwide broadcast via B1G+
