Man Utd ‘chosen one’ claims he ‘doesn’t regret’ staying at Leicester as ‘things get worse’

Tielemans speaks on Leicester

Youri Tielemans has insisted that he “doesn’t regret” staying at Leicester City in the summer amid reports linking him with Arsenal and Man Utd.

Tielemans has been a standout player for Leicester City over the past few seasons. He joined them permanently for £32m in 2019 following an initial loan spell from Monaco.

The Belgium international was a bit of a flop in Ligue 1 but he has returned to his best during his time at The King Power Stadium.

His finest moment in a Leicester shirt came as he netted the winning goal in the FA Cup final in 2021.

Tielemans has proved in recent years that he is capable of making the step up to play for a team competing in the Champions League.

Tielemans is now away on international duty with Belgium and he has admitted that this has come at the right time as it is “tough at Leicester right now”:

“I’m happy to get a bit of fresh air here [with Belgium] because it’s tough at Leicester right now,” Tielemans said in a press conference on international duty.

“It’s clear that things are not going well at the club. We are doing everything we can as a team.

“At Leicester, the consecutive defeats have affected us as a group. We need to benefit from this break to recharge our batteries.

“It’s hard to get it off my mind as it keeps running through my head. Only my kids sometimes prevent me from thinking about it.”

Tielemans was also asked about his contract situation with it currently looking likely that he will exit either in January for a reduced fee or in the summer for free.

He has suggested that Leicester’s current struggles “doesn’t mean” he regrets staying:

“I’m not going to speak too much about my contract situation at the moment,” Tielemans added.

“I didn’t leave Leicester in the summer as I always said the…
