El Tri Femenil has named Pedro Lopez as the new head coach.
“The Mexican Soccer Federation welcomes Pedro López as technical director of the Mexican Women’s National Team. The FMF is pleased to welcome the strategist, who was crowned champion with the Spain U-20 team at the FIFA World Cup held in Costa Rica last August, and also European U-19 champion in July this year. Welcome Pedro!”
He succeeds Monica Vergara, who was fired from the national team in July after Mexico failed to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup or 2024 Summer Olympics.
She led the team to the Concacaf W Championship, held in Monterrey, Mexico, but could not secure one victory, falling to the United States, Jamaica and Haiti to conclude the tournament in last place of Group A with zero points. The disappointment forced the Mexican women’s national team to undergo several changes.
Now, Pedro Lopez will take charge of El Tri, in hopes to reach their fullest potential.
