September 16, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL – Defenders Alistair Johnston, Kamal Miller and Joel Waterman, as well as midfielders Ismaël Koné and Samuel Piette have been called up by the Canadian men’s national team ahead of two international matches in September, in preparation for Canada’s FIFA World Cup campaign this November in Qatar.

This selection marks the third time since 2012 that five CF Montréal players or more have been called up to a Canadian national team senior camp.

Canada will play two away international “A” matches during this international window in Europe. The Canadians will first take on World Cup host Qatar on Friday, September 23, at Generali Arena in Austria. The team will then travel to Bratislava, Slovakia, where it will face Uruguay on Tuesday, September 27, at Stadion Tehelné pole.

Johnston, Miller and Piette all earned call-ups with Canada during the June international window, as the team faced Curaçao and Honduras in Group C of the Concacaf Nations League. Johnston and Miller played the full 90 minutes in both of those matches. Piette, meanwhile, earned a substitute appearance in Canada’s 4-0 win over Curaçao.

Koné will be at his second camp with the national team. He earned his first-ever senior call-up in March for the final round of World Cup qualifying. The midfielder got his first minutes with the senior team on March 24, 2022, as a substitute against Costa Rica at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose.

Finally, Waterman returns to the national team program for the first time since March 2021 when he was invited to two World Cup qualifying matches against Bermuda and the Cayman Islands in Florida.

Making a return to the competition for the first time in 36 years, Canada was drawn into Group F of the FIFA World Cup group stage in Qatar. Les Rouges will take on Belgium, Croatia and Morocco on November 23, 27 and December 1 respectively.
