UW opens Big Ten Campaign at Iowa Friday

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team will look to carry their successful non-conference play into the start of the Big Ten season with their first test against Iowa. The Badgers will travel to Iowa City this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m for their fifth away game of the year.

Although both teams have played in eight matches thus far, this game will be the biggest of the year for both schools as the conference deems to be a competitive one for the 2022 season.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are coming off of a dominant win as they surged past Northern Illinois 3-0 on Monday. After a quiet first half, Wisconsin went on a scoring streak, netting three goals within 11 minutes thanks to Emma Jaskaniec, Adee Boer, and Claire Odmark

2. HISTORY VS. THE HAWKEYES: Wisconsin has the upper hand over the Hawkeyes, with a 12-4-5 record all-time. The two teams settled on a tie last matchup, though within the last ten games vs. Iowa, the Badgers have only lost once, coming out on top six of the ten times and drawing the other three.

3. SENIOR STARS: Jaskaniec continues her dominant start with a team-leading six goals and 13 points. The senior has scored a goal in each of the last five matches since Aug. 28, while adding an assist to her stat line the game before that. Along with Jaskaniec, Erin McKinney has led the team to five shutouts while playing every minute in net this year.

4. BIG TEN BATTLE: The fight for the Big Ten will be a difficult one this year as there are currently five of the fourteen teams that sit in the top 25 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll. The Badgers fell out of that ranking this past week, however, remain a team to look out for as they received votes in the national poll. Wisconsin was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten preseason poll, whereas Iowa was predicted to finish eighth.

5. WHO TO WATCH: Transfer Kyndal Anderson and Big Ten all-conference and preseason honors list selection, Kyndal Anderson, lead the Hawkeyes in points and goals after eight games. Kyndal Anderson has made an instant impact for the team as she leads with three goals and two assists on the year. Anderson has continued her successful college career as she starts the season with two goals and two assists.
