Oregon will play its fourth WCC team of the year in the 2022 nonconference finale Friday night at 7 p.m. (WCC Network) when the Ducks visit Portland to face the Pilots at Merlo Field. Other WCC teams the Ducks have faced this season include San Francisco, Gonzaga and Santa Clara.
KEY STORYLINES
• Senior Lexi Romero scored her first two goals as a Duck last week, netting one each against Santa Clara and Hofstra. Her score in the 38th minute at Hofstra proved to be the game-winner in the Ducks’ 1-0 decision. Romero scored 14 goals in 2019 as a freshman at Air Force before transferring to Oregon.
• Oregon went across the country to play in New York for the first time in program history and earned a 1-0 win in a rainstorm at Hofstra on Sunday. Goalkeeper Leah Freeman made six saves for her 16th career shutout, which is one shy of the UO career record of 17 (Abby Steele, 2011-14).
• Zoe Hasenauer is also threatening a school record. With 17 career assists, she is just one shy of the school mark of 18 held by Jen Stoltenberg (2007-10). With one more shot, Hasenauer will also climb into the top four in UO career shots.
• Senior Jordan Snyder broke through in a big way two weeks ago, scoring the first two goals of her career. She netted the game-tying goal in the 78th minute versus Texas (Sept. 1) and added another Sept. 4 against Boise State. Prior to those two games, Snyder had played in 15 career games and had attempted two shots in her four seasons in Eugene.
• Freshmen Helpers. Of the Ducks’ 12 assists this season, eight have come from freshmen. Trinity Morales, Ajanae Respass and Livvy Moore each have two, while Ainsley Fink and Caitlyn McCulloch, each have one.
• One match after tying her career high in saves with nine against San Francisco (8-21), Leah Freeman established a new personal standard with 10 at Gonzaga (8-27). Freeman leads the Pac-12 and ranks 19th nationally averaging 6.3 saves per game.
• Ten players have made their Oregon debuts on so far this season. The list includes senior Madeline Gravante, junior Bel Rolley, sophomore Callan Harrington and freshmen Anna Emperador, Ainsley Fink, Caitlyn McCulloch, Livvy Moore, Trinity Morales, Rieley Petkovich and Ajanae…
