Cougs Come from Behind for Win Over Cal Poly

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women’s soccer team (4-1-1) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Cal Poly, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Lower Soccer Field. Senior Grayson Lynch netted the game winning goal for the Cougs, and freshman Lily Boyden and sophomore Lindsey Turner scored their first career goals at WSU.
 
The Cal Poly Mustangs scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute, as Olivia Ortiz floated a shot from the top of the box just over the outstretched arms of sophomore Nadia Cooper, and into the top right corner. The lead did not last long as the Cougars quickly drew level courtesy of Lily Boyden.
 
WSU’s Boyden recorded her first collegiate goal just 30 seconds after Cal Poly scored. The Salt Lake City native trapped a cross from senior MacKenzie Frimpong-Ellertson, took a touch at the edge of the 6-yard box, and finished into the top, right netting. The equalizer also earned Frimpong-Ellertson her first assist and point of the season.
 
After the halftime whistle, and the sides level, Cal Poly earned a penalty kick after an unintentional handball by WSU’s Aaqila McLyn in the 52nd minute. Poly’s Megan Hansen converted the penalty and gave the Mustangs an early 2-1…
