Turner Selected UCLA Student-Athlete of Week, presented by Ready

Forward Reilyn Turner of the UCLA women’s soccer team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for Aug. 29-Sept. 5.

Turner, a junior from Aliso Viejo, Calif., scored the game-winning goals in both games as No. 3 UCLA swept through the nation’s top two-ranked teams at No. 2 Duke on Sept. 1 and at No. 1 North Carolina on Sept. 4. Turner had a hand in both of UCLA’s goals at Duke, drawing a penalty kick in the 12th minute that Jayden Perry scored, and then scoring the game-winner in the 62nd minute of a 2-1 victory. At North Carolina, Turner provided the heroics once again, winning a ball at midfield in the 84th minute and taking it all the way down the field before sending a strike from just outside the box past the Tar Heel goalkeeper. For her efforts, Turner was also named the national player of the week by Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.

This is Turner’s first UCLA student-athlete of the week award of the season and third of her career.

Also nominated: Francesca Alupei, W. Volleyball; Riley Ferch, M. Soccer; Bernardo Maurizi, M. Water Polo; Michael Mireles, M. Cross Country; Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Football.
