September 6, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville Soccer Club in conjunction with Major League Soccer announced this morning that the league’s MVP frontrunner Hany Mukhtar has been named the MLS Player of the Month for August 2022.
Mukhtar is coming off a sensational month of August, that included a hat trick on Aug. 31 against the Colorado Rapids, the second of his MLS career and first-ever hat trick in GEODIS Park.
Mukhtar earned Player of the Week honors after that performance, becoming the only player to win the award multiple times in the past two seasons. This marked his fifth Player of the Week honor since 2020, the most by an MLS player.
In total, Mukhtar recorded 12 goal contributions in the month of August (seven goals and five assists), becoming the fourth player in league history to reach that total in a calendar month. Mukhtar’s seven goals in August were the most of any player in the month.
Mukhtar leads the league in goals scored with 21, setting a new club-single season record, a mark in which he previously held. The MLS All-Star has reached 32 goal contributions this season (21 goals and 11 assists) which is five more than the player ranking second in that category. The German has scored multiple goals in a match six times this season, which is more than any other MLS player.
Per MLS, Mukhtar is now the first player to reach 30 goal contributions in a single season since LAFC’s Carlos Vela set the single-season MLS record in 2019 with 49.
Mukhtar has recorded 37 goals since the start of the 2021 season, the most of any player in MLS. He has recorded 60 goal contributions in that span as well which is 18 more than the next closest player. Mukhtar has now been involved in over half of Nashville SC’s regular season goals in club history (68 of 126) and is the all-time leader in club history in goals (41) and assists (27).
Mukhtar started his September campaign in spectacular fashion after scoring a brace and leading Nashville to a 3-0 win over Austin FC, carrying the Boys in Gold to just one point shy of the third seed in the Western Conference.
Mukhtar has guided Nashville to a club-record, four-match consecutive winning streak, a stretch that has seen Nashville SC outscore its opponents 11-1. Nashville will look to reach five consecutive matches won this Saturday against the LA Galaxy at GEODIS Park at 2:30 p.m. CT on Univision, TUDN, and Twitter.
