DURHAM – After collecting three goals and two assists this past week against two nationally-ranked opponents, Duke women’s soccer sophomore Michelle Cooper was selected ACC Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Cooper, who hails from Clarkston, Mich., registered three goals and one assist for seven points last week against No. 3 UCLA and No. 6 TCU. She closed the week with a brace on the road versus sixth-ranked TCU to help the Blue Devils collect a 3-1 victory in front of a school-record crowd of 3,648 fans. Cooper registered the first two goals of the match to give Duke the momentum early and then assisted on the third goal.
At home on Thursday against third-ranked UCLA, Cooper collected a goal in the first half, which was the first goal allowed by the Bruins this season.
Cooper has scored a goal in four straight matches and has notched at least one point in 19-of-23 career contests as a Blue Devil. In the latest ACC stats, she ranks first in points per game (2.60), tied for second in goals per game (1.0), first in shots per game (5.4) and tied for second in assists per game (0.60).
It marks the first time in her short career that Cooper has been selected ACC Offensive Player of the Week. Cooper earned the honor along with Notre Dame’s Olivia Wingate, while Talia Staude of Virginia was tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Cooper also received CollegeSoccerNews Team of the Week accolades on Tuesday, while also earning TopDrawerSoccer Honorable Mention Team of the Week honors.
Duke will next host third-ranked North Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m., live on ACC Network.
