Turner, Brzykcy Receive Pac-12 Awards

Following a weekend sweep in North Carolina over the nation’s Top 2 teams, UCLA’s Reilyn Turner and Lauren Brzykcy have been selected the Pac-12 Offensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.

Turner, a junior forward from Aliso Viejo, Calif., scored both game-winning goals against No. 2 Duke and No. 1 North Carolina, her first goals of the season. At Duke, she had a hand in both of UCLA’s goals, drawing a penalty kick in the 12th minute for the game’s first score and then scoring the game-winner in the 62nd minute. At North Carolina, she provided the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute, winning a ball at midfield and taking it all the way down the field before firing a perfectly-placed shot from just outside the box. Turner has 23 goals and eight game-winning goals in just over two seasons.

Brzykcy, a graduate student from San Clemente, Calif., received her second consecutive Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week nod after totaling 13 saves in the two victories over Duke and North Carolina. Against Duke on Sept. 1, she tied her career-high with nine saves, making seven in the decisive second half. She recorded four saves at North Carolina on Sept. 4, including three second-half saves that came with the score tied at 1-1. With her saves total last weekend, Brzykcy moved into UCLA’s all-time Top 5 for career saves with 179.

This is Turner’s second career offensive player of the week award. Brzykcy now has seven in her career, one away from Teagan Micah’s school and conference record of eight.
