Four Cougars Score as Soccer Beats Denver, 4-2

PULLMAN, Wash. – Four different players scored for the Washington State women’s soccer team (3-1-1), as it defeated University of Denver, 4-2, at Lower Soccer Field, Sunday night. WSU junior Margie Detrizio opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before Sydney Studer, Marin Whieldon, and Grayson Lynch all added their name to the WSU scoresheet.
 
Just over four minutes into the match, fifth-year senior Mykiaa Minniss played a direct ball over the Denver back line, finding junior Alyssa Gray, who took a shot that was parried away by DU’s goalkeeper, Nerea Arrazola. Detrizio jumped on the loose ball, glanced up at the goal, and placed the rebound into the bottom left corner for her fourth goal of the season and an early WSU lead.
 
Fifth-year senior Sydney Studer doubled the Cougar lead 20 minutes later. Senior Bridget Rieken served in a cross from the right side, finding Detrizio at the top of the penalty box. Detrizio flicked a header on, across the penalty area, falling to Studer who first-timed it into the bottom right corner for a 2-0 WSU lead, her second goal of the season.
 
Before the half WSU would add a third goal. In the 44th minute, freshman Lily Boyden played down the right side, crossing the ball into the area with a high, outswinging ball.
