FORT WORTH, Texas – Sophomore Michelle Cooper collected a brace on Sunday evening at sixth-ranked TCU to help lead second-ranked Duke women’s soccer to a 3-1 road victory in front of a record crowd of 3,648 fans at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the victory, the Blue Devils improved to 5-1 on the season and collected their second win against a ranked opponent. TCU dropped to 3-2-1 on the year.
How It Happened
• At the 10:25 mark, Duke took a 1-0 lead. Michelle Cooper grabbed the ball just before midfield and drove all the way down into the box, beating numerous Horned Frogs defenders. Cooper then slipped the ball in-between TCU goalkeeper Lauren Kellett’s legs for her fourth goal this season and 16th of her career.
• Blue Devil goalkeeper Ruthie Jones came up big at the 19:31 mark as she made a key save to her left off a shot from TCU’s Olivia Hasler.
• At the half, TCU held a 7-6 advantage in shots marking the second straight match Duke has been outshot in the first half.
• Ruthie Jones finished the first half with a season-high three saves and went on to finish the contest with five for the match.
• Jones started the second half with another key save with her left hand at the 47:07 mark off a TCU shot from Camryn Lancaster. Jones deflected the ball over the top of the goal.
