Transfer gossip: Newcastle, Villa wanted Spurs man as Conte eyed PL star, Murtough Man Utd confession

Man Utd football director John Murtough and new manager Erik ten Hag.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa wanted a Spurs forward as Tottenham eyed a Premier League star, while John Murtough has made a confession about transfer business at Man Utd…

ROMANO STILL AT IT
With the transfer window over, most rumours at this stage surround deals which could’ve happened on deadline day. And the one about Lucas Moura possibly ending up at Newcastle United or Aston Villa is no different.

Man Utd football director John Murtough has confessed that the Red Devils ‘should have abandoned talks with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong much earlier than they did’. The Daily Express claim that Murtough and his team ‘spent the majority of the summer pointlessly pursuing a deal for the uninterested De Jong’.

It was clear early on that De Jong had no interest in moving to Old Trafford with his only target to stay at Barcelona, while there were some rumours Chelsea were also interested in the Netherlands international. The speculation that he could move to the Blues…
