Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC heads West in search of three points with a match against Orange County SC on Saturday, September 3 at 9 p.m. CT.
Memphis moved to 16-7-3 on the season after falling 1-0 in a hard fought match against Loudoun United FC on Wednesday. 901 FC stands in second place in the Eastern Conference, four points behind first place Louisville City FC with eight matches left in the regular season.
With the Tampa Bay Rowdies sitting at 51 points and Birmingham following closely behind with 50, the battle atop the Eastern Conference continues down the home stretch.
901 FC struggled to find the back of the net against Loudoun, taking 21 shots with nine on target and hitting the framework on multiple attempts. Memphis also held 64% of possession with eight corners throughout the match but couldn’t bury any chances created.
Defending champion Orange County currently sit in last place in the Western Conference, 10 points outside of playoff position. Orange County has conceded 46 goals, averaging 1.8 goals conceded per match, while scoring 41 goals with a conversion rate of 20%.
Saturday’s match is Memphis’ second in a stretch of three matches in eight days and the first matchup between the two clubs, both looking to end their respective losing streaks.
Quotables
“We’ve got to just improve ourselves. They’re good and rested, we’re not. We’ll have to be creative but for us it’s more about making sure we have a good response. We talked about after Birmingham having a response. We didn’t, so we have to make sure we have our foot right. I think if we play with a little more passion and selflessness, we’ll win more games than not.” – Ben Pirmann
History in the Making…
Memphis 901 FC is currently enjoying their best season since its start in the Bluff City in 2019. After a playoff appearance last season, the club has established itself as a title contender.
