Weekend Roadtrip Begins Thursday Night at Kansas


LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Purdue soccer team begins a two-game roadtrip with a matchup at Kansas on Thursday, September 1, in Lawrence, Kansas.
 
Kickoff at KU’s Rock Chalk Park is set for 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.

The Boilermakers (2-2-0) and Jayhawks (3-1-0) are both coming off victories on Sunday, August 28. Purdue defeated Miami (Ohio), 2-1 at Folk Field, while KU won at Drake, 3-1.
 
Through four games, the Boilermakers are third in the Big Ten with 4.50 saves per game and fifth in assists, with nine, and fewest fouls per game, with 8.50. Purdue has scored six goals on 44 shots, with four goals allowed and 18 saves.
 
Individually, sophomore forward Gracie Dunaway is No. 20 in the NCAA with eight total points and 28th with three goals, both the best in the Big Ten. She also is third in the league with two assists, along with junior midfielder Emily Mathews and freshman forward Kayla Budish.
 
In four games, Dunaway has a team-best three goals and a team-high-tying two assists. She has accounted for five of Purdue’s six goals and has at least one point in three of the season’s four matches.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. KANSAS
The Boilermakers are 1-4-0 all-time against Kansas and 0-2-0 in Lawrence. The last meeting was a 2-1 loss to the 11th-ranked Jayhawks in 2019 at Folk Field. In that contest, Purdue took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, but KU responded with the equalizer in the 59th minute and won it in the 85th. The series began with a 3-1 home win in 2005, as the Boilermakers upended No. 24 Kansas.
 
SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS
Kansas is 3-1-0 on the season and 1-1-0 at home. The Jayhawks have won three in a row, with a pair of 1-0 shutouts, after a 1-0, season-opening loss to Ohio State. KU is coming off a 3-1 win at Drake, where Shira Elinav scored in the 10th and 57th minutes to propel the visitors. Following the road win, two Jayhawks, goalkeeper Melanie Pasar and defender Assa Kante, were named the Big 12 Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
