The Fighting Illini soccer team opened the 2022 season with back-to-back home victories over Illinois State and Toledo, keyed by the play of redshirt junior Ashley Prell. 

The win over the ISU marked the team’s fourth-straight season-opening victory as the Illini controlled the pace of play from start to finish, and used Prell’s eventual game-winner in the 84th minute, her first collegiate goal, to capture the 1-0 victory over the Redbirds. 

Prell’s weekend also included a key assist in Illinois’ dominating 4-1 win over Toledo on Senior Day. With the Illini leading 1-0 early in the second half, Prell sent a ball across the box from the left side that was flicked on by Sarah Foley before Kendra Pasquale buried it into the goal at the six-yard box.

For the weekend, Prell logged 97 minutes of action and tallied three points with one goal and one assist.  

A native of Fox River Grove, Ill., Prell is an information systems major.
