Bournemouth Sack Scott Parker After Four EPL Games

AFC Bournemouth have announced the dismissal of head coach Scott Parker only four games into the new Premier League season after earning promotion from the Championship last term.

The Cherries had beaten Aston Villa on the opening day 2-0 before losses to top-four contenders Manchester City (4-0), Arsenal (3-0) and Liverpool (4-0).

The heavy loss to Liverpool proved the final straw for Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin who said: “I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us.

“Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under his tenure will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history.

“However, in order for us to keep progressing as a team and a Club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably.

“We must also show belief in and respect for one another. That is the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one that we will not veer from now.

“Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”

Parker had guided Bournemouth to promotion with 88 points in last season’s Championship, finishing only two points behind champions Fulham.

While the other two promoted clubs Fulham and Nottingham Forest have invested heavily in their squad since promotion, Bournemouth have been more conservative.

The club’s major additions were Ryan Fredericks from West Ham United, Marcus Tavernier from Middlesbrough, Joe Rothwell from Blackburn and Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord.

Parker, 41, previously managed Fulham, whom he led to promotion via the playoffs in 2020, before being dismissed after their relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2020-21 season.
