SEATTLE — In their first ever matchup against Central Arkansas, the UW men’s soccer team beat the Bears 2-1 Monday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Coming off a season-opening 2-2 tie against Portland, the Bears held their own in the first 45 minutes of play against the Huskies. Washington is the highest ranked team UCA has faced in program history.
Central Arkansas remained aggressive early on, not letting the nationally ranked Huskies get going on offense.
The Bears had five corner kicks in the first half offering them a few close opportunities to score but couldn’t register any shots on goal.
Both teams came alive offensively in the second half after entering the break with no goals.
Ilijah Paul scored the first goal of the game, and of his Husky career, in the 65th minute off an assist by Chris Meyers to put Washington on the board.
About a minute and a half later, Nick Scardina stretched Washington’s lead to two as he connected with the bottom center of the goal off a double assist from Ilijah Paul and Omar Grey.
In an eventful three consecutive minutes of action, the Bears notched their first and only goal on the night a minute after Scardina’s.
