Ten Hag Non-Committal On Ronaldo's Man Utd Future

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has refused to commit to Cristiano Ronaldo remaining with the club ahead of the transfer window shutting.

Ronaldo was a 68th minute substitute in United’s 1-0 win at Southampton, helping them improve their record to two wins and two losses after their poor start to the new Premier League season.

A lot of conjecture has been about Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford, having requested a transfer in the off-season.

Ronaldo, who has another year on his contract, wants to play in the UEFA Champions League and challenge for trophies this season, which he feels United cannot offer.

“I cannot say that (Ronaldo will leave United),” Ten Hag said.

“We plan with him and we stick to the plan and if there are good players available we will strike because we want to strengthen the squad always.

“So we will be alert until the last second of the window.”

New signing Casemiro debuted in the win, where Bruno Fernandes netted the winner.

On Casemiro, the Dutchman said: “I think it was quite good for him to see the Premier League, it’s a different style.

“He had pre-season, he played some games, he played 90 minutes (only) one time but he is fit.

“He had a good pre-season with a lot of training sessions and now we have to integrate him in the team in a way of play and a way of integrating with his team-mates.”

Ten Hag was pleased with his side’s improvement but hinted at further activity in the transfer market.

“There is always a journey that you have with your team and we started from the first day in pre-season to get that in and now still the window is not closed so you have every time a new player is in to inform them about the rules and then play together,” he said.

“Football is a team sport, football is a complicated sport from 11 players against 11 players so that takes time first to present it and second to train that and you need training but also games to get that in.”
