Scouting Lafayette
Lafayette went 7-7-4 in 2021, including 3-3-3 in the Patriot League to finish seventh in the standings.  Five of the Leopards’ wins came at home.  Lafayette goalkeeper Alex Sutton was selected as the Preseason Patriot Leauge Goalkeeper of the Year after recording four shutouts and allowing 1.08 goals per game last season.  Two other players, Nick Hazel and Yiannis Panayides, also earned spots on the Preseason All-Patriot League team.  UAlbany is 5-1-0 in six meetings against Lafayette since 2003.
 
Last Time vs. Lafayette
Giuliano Lucca scored in the 90th minute in last season’s meeting against the Leopards in Albany, securing the 1-0 victory for the Great Danes to give UAlbany its fourth win in its first five games to start the year.  There were three seconds remaining in regulation when Lucca found the back of the net to clinch UAlbany’s third-straight 1-0 victory.  Shafique Wilson earned a shutout in his first career start for the Great Danes,
 
Last Time Out
UAlbany hosted its home and season opener against former America East opponent Boston University.  Pantelis Panteli put UAlbany on the board early with a successful penalty kick in the 23rd minute.  Boston University tied the game at one after halftime in the 60th minute, and the two teams opened their seasons on a 1-1 draw.
 
Around the America East
Three America East teams won their season openers: UMass Lowell, Vermont, and UMBC.  Defending regular-season champion and preseason national #9 New Hampshire fell in their opener at #20 Maryland.  UAlbany and NJIT are currently tied for fourth at 0-0-1, while Binghamton and Bryant join New Hampshire among the winless squads after one game.  Three teams, Binghamton, NJIT, and New Hampshire, play on Sunday.
