Cardinals Host Bellarmine Monday Night

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men’s soccer team returns to the pitch on Monday night for a match against in-city foe Bellarmine. Kickoff at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals opened the 2022 season in a big way on Thursday, scoring three unanswered goals on their way to a 3-1 victory over 10th-ranked Saint Louis. Macoumba Ba, Aboubacar Camara and Bryce LeBel each found the back of the net, while Gavin Krenecki notched his first career win in goal.

Louisville has featured a high-powered offensive attack under John Michael Hayden, and that continued in the season opener with three goals in the win. Thursday marked the 13th time the Cards have scored at least three times during Hayden’s tenure.

SERIES HISTORY
The all-time series between Louisville and Bellarmine is all even at 6-6-3, however last season’s meeting between the two was the first since Bellarmine moved up to Division I. Dante Huckaby recorded the first goal of his collegiate career in the 105th minute in double overtime to lift the Cards to a 1-0 victory last September.

CAMARA ONE OF NATION’S BEST GOAL SCORERS
Junior forward Aboubacar Camara has been one of the country’s best goal scorers throughout his collegiate career.

He led all ACC goal scorers during the 2021 spring season with five tallies in six matches and then finished 10th nationally with 13 goals last fall. Camara’s scoring prowess was efficient as well, as his 50 shot attempts were the third-fewest among the 14 players to score 13 goals last season.

Camara enters the 2022 campaign as the top returning goal scorer from last season among Power Five schools and his 66th minute strike in the season opener against Saint Louis moved him into a tie for 10th all-time in goals at Louisville.

VETERAN GROUP LEADS LOUISVILLE INTO 2022 CAMPAIGN
John Michael Hayden‘s third season at the helm of the Louisville program resulted in a 10-7-1 overall record and the program’s first ACC Atlantic Division championship.

However, eight of Louisville’s 11 regular starters were freshmen or sophomores. Therefore, Hayden welcomes a veteran experienced group in 2022 that returns nine starters, all of which logged more than 1,000 minutes last fall.
