Antony ‘disappointed’ with Ajax after they reject outrageous Manchester United offer

Antony applauds the fans

Manchester United have reportedly lodged a fresh bid to sign Ajax winger Antony, upping their offer to €90m (£76.2m).

The Brazilian winger was left out of the squad for Ajax’s win at Sparta Rotterdam last weekend.

Liverpool lose their identity and money, while Man Utd need to pull out of transfer for Antony

He has been impressive in the Netherlands since signing from Sao Paulo in 2020 for around £14m.

In total, the 22-year-old has scored 18 and assisted 14 in 57 Eredivisie appearances.

Antony was terrific under Erik ten Hag, who left Ajax to replace Ralf Rangnick as Manchester United manager in May.

And the Dutch manager is extremely keen to bring the player to Old Trafford after signing his former teammate Lisandro Martinez for around £57m last month.

Ten Hag has been pursuing former Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong all summer but has not been able to prize him away from Barcelona.

A new central midfielder was a huge priority this summer and after failing to sign De Jong and Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid.

He is clearly valued very highly by Ajax, who don’t want to lose him, and valued very highly by United, who will probably end up paying £100m to sign him.

Their offer had gone as high as €80m (£67.8m), but United have reportedly lodged an improved bid.

To no avail, however.

According to Mike Verweij, Ajax have turned down a €90m (£76.2m) offer from the Premier League club.

Thanks to those ruddy paywalls, we turn our attention to Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed the bid.

Ajax consider €90m to be ‘not enough’, the crazy sods.

Antony ‘only wants’ United and is ‘disappointed’ with the Dutch club after they declined yet another astronomical offer.

Although €90m is a ridiculous amount of money and should be enough for Ajax to accept, they are standing firm.

You can’t blame them, really, given the amount of money United have spent over the last decade. They have got them right where they want them…

Furthermore, Ajax have pretty much sold their strongest XI from last season already this summer, so you can’t blame them for being…
