Baylor

AUSTIN, Texas – Forward Avery Patterson scored both goals in top-ranked North Carolina’s 2-0 women’s soccer win over Texas on Thursday at Mike Myers Stadium.

The junior from Jacksonville, Fla., put the visitors ahead in the 58th minute with a with a right-foot shot from just above the goal box off a pass from senior Julia Dorsey. She added her second goal in the 79th, scoring again from a similar position off a feed from freshman Kate Faasse.

Patterson scored her first goal of the year a week ago in the season opener against No. 11 Tennessee and is the first UNC player this season to score multiple goals.

“Avery is a human battering ram,” UNC head coach Anson Dorrance said. “She never gives up. She is relentless. She can beat people off the dribble. She has a powerful shot. She can head with the best. I absolutely love this kid!”

Goalkeepers Emmie Allen and Marz Josephson combined for their third consecutive clean sheet of the season.

Allen turned aside both Longhorns’ shots on goal.

Carolina outshot Texas 23-8 with an 8-2 edge in shots on goal.
