Northwestern and Chicago State Play to 3-3 Draw


EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern and Chicago State played to a 3-3 draw Thursday (Aug. 25) in the season-opener at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. Dahn Tran scored the match-tying goal in the 85th minute off a ricocheted shot from Justin Weiss. The Cougars were forced to play with 10 players from the 37th minute on. Both teams are now 0-0-1 on the season.

How it Happened

Northwestern opened the scoring when Justin Weiss scored a goal in the 15th minute.

The Cougars responded to tie it on a goal from Niall Reid-Stephen in the 28th minute, assisted by Poe Reh.

Chicago St. went ahead 2-1 on Danail Sergiev’s 34th-minute goal.

The Wildcats levelled it at 2-2 with a 40th-minute goal from Brandon Clagette, his first goal of the season. Danh Tran assisted the goal.

CSU broke the tie and took a 3-2 lead on Reid-Stephen’s goal in the 49th minute.

The Wildcats knotted things up at 3-3 thanks to an 84th-minute goal from Tran, his first goal of the season. Weiss assisted the goal. The score was the last of the game.

NU travels to FGCU for a 6 p.m. CT match on Sunday, August 26.
