No. 24 Wisconsin Starts Home Slate vs. Loyola, Green Bay


MADISON, Wis. – Returning home after a week on the road in Texas, the No. 24 Wisconsin women’s soccer team will host Loyola and Green Bay as part of doubleheaders at the McClimon Soccer Complex this weekend.

The Badgers will host Loyola on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. before taking on Green Bay on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. The men’s team will contend against Utah Tech in their season opener at 8 p.m. on Thursday, and follow with a 1 p.m. start versus Tulsa on Sunday.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. IN THE RANKS: Wisconsin is ranked No. 24 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches national poll. The Badgers make their return to the national rankings since earning the No. 18 spot on Sept. 28, 2021.

2. BIG HONORS: Aidan McConnell and Erin McKinney earned Big Ten weekly honors, as McConnell was selected was the Defensive Player of the Week, and McKinney was split Co-Goalkeeper of the Week recognition. McConnell played all 180 minutes in shutouts against No. 7 TCU and Baylor, while McKinney tallied 13 saves over the weekend, which led all goalkeepers in the conference.

3. HOME SWEET HOME: Since the start of the 2014 season, the Badgers are 49-10-15 at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Additionally, Wisconsin is 4-2-1 in home openers during that stretch.

4. THE OPPONENTS: The Badgers are 6-0-1 all-time versus Loyola and are 4-0-0 against the Ramblers in Madison. Loyola coming off a 1-1-0 weekend, defeating South Dakota before falling to Miami. Wisconsin is undefeated against Green Bay, winning all 17 matchups since the series started in 1987. The Phoenix blanked Chicago State, 3-0, in its opener on Sunday.

5. CAREER CHARTS: Adee Boer, who missed the 2021 season due to injury, netted her first career goal, which was also the game-winner, versus Baylor in the 63rd minute. Emma Jaskaniec also found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, slotting in her 15th career goal on a penalty kick. The senior is 3-for-3 in penalty kicks throughout her career.
