SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Five San Diego Wave Fútbol Club players have been called up to their respective national teams for the upcoming September international window. San Diego Wave FC defender Naomi Girma, midfielder Taylor Kornieck and forward Alex Morgan have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team 23-player roster for two September friendly matches against Nigeria. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan has been named to Canada’s 23-player roster, and midfielder Emily van Egmond to Australia’s for two friendly matches against one another.

Girma, Kornieck, and Morgan were all called to camp with the national team in June in preparation for the 2022 Concacaf W Championship. Taylor Kornieck made her debut for the stars and stripes, as well as scoring her first-ever international goal in a friendly against Colombia on June 25th. Naomi Girma and Alex Morgan both made a significant impact in the Concacaf tournament where the U.S. returned home as champions after their 1-0 win over Canada. Morgan took home the golden ball as the tournament’s best player after scoring the winning goal in the final where she coolly converted a penalty to deliver the win for the U.S, notching her third goal of the tournament.

In this FIFA window, the USWNT will face Nigeria on Sept. 3 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The kickoff is set for 10:30 a.m. PT on FOX. The two sides will then meet again on Sept. 6 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. at 3 p.m. PT with a national broadcast on ESPN2.

Kailen Sheridan spent the previous international window with Canada to prepare for and compete in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, where she returned to San Diego as a finalist. Sheridan finished the tournament with just one goal allowed, recorded three clean sheets and made seven saves in four matches, which earned her the tournament’s Golden Glove Award.

Emily van Egmond recently joined the Matildas in the June FIFA window to compete in a pair of friendlies against Spain and Portugal. Van Egmond competed in both matches before heading back to San Diego to rejoin Wave FC prior to their July 3rd match.

Sheridan and van Egmond, teammates in San Diego, will be on opposing ends as Canada plays the Matildas in Brisbane, Australia at 9:45 p.m. PT on Sept. 2 and Sydney, Australia at 2:40 a.m. PT on Sept. 6.

After much anticipation and excitement, the club will play its historic opener at Snapdragon…
