Splittorff Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After scoring a memorable game-winning goal for the Purdue soccer team on opening night, freshman forward Naomi Splittorff has been recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced.

In her first collegiate game, Splittorff scored the game-winning goal to help the Boilermakers beat No. 15 USC on August 18. The 3-0 upset win to open the 2022 season came in front of a team-record 3,296 fans at Folk Field.

An Evansville, Indiana, native, Splittorff is the first Boilermaker to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades since now-junior Nicole Kevdzija was honored twice during the 2020 season.

In the opening weekend of the season, Splittorff played in both games and totaled 66 minutes. She had four shots, all on target, and is the only Big Ten player with a perfect shot accuracy of 1.000. Against USC, Splittorff had a game-high three shots in 33 minutes, highlighted by her game-winning goal in the 44th minute.

Up next, Splittorff and Purdue (1-1-0) take to the road for the first time in the regular season on Thursday, August 25 at Kentucky. The Boilermakers and Wildcats square off for the second consecutive season, this time in Lexington, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. ET. Following the midweek matchup, Purdue returns home to host Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, August 28, at 1 p.m. ET. Admission is free for all fans to every regular-season home game at Folk Field in 2022.
