August 23, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento, Calif. – On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced Republic FC midfielder Keko was named to the Team of the Week Bench for Week 24.
Across three matches from August 13-20, the Spaniard led the club’s offensive attack, tallying eight shots. He scored his fourth goal of the 2022 season on August 17, creatively finding defender Jack Gurr on the right wing before receiving the ball right back to punch it through for the club’s third score of the night. He tallied two attempts at goal against Las Vegas on August 20, while entering the final third four times.
The selection is Keko’s first to the league’s weekly top squad since coming over from Spain ahead of the 2022 campaign. He is the 13th different player for Sacramento to earn the weekly honor this season. Including this week’s selection, Republic FC players have been named to Team of the Week 19 times this season and in 14 of 24 match weeks.
Republic FC takes the pitch again this Saturday, when they face off with Oakland Roots SC in their final regional derby match of 2022. It’s the last opportunity to catch the club in action at home before two big road matches – September 3 against Eastern Conference leader Louisville City, and the U.S. Open Cup Final in Orlando on September 7. Kickoff from Heart Health Park is set for 8:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on FOX40, Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News Mobile App, and streaming on ESPN+.
Throughout Saturday’s match, the club will celebrate College Night alongside Sacramento State University. Hornet Students, Faculty and Alumni can get discounted tickets to the match, as well as an exclusive Republic FC x Sacramento State co-branded scarf at SacRepublicFC.com/SacState.
