Wildcats Capture Two Pac-12 Weekly Awards

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced the first weekly award winners of the 2022 season and Arizona received two of the three awards, with Madison Goerlinger being named Defensive Player of the Week and Hope Hisey earning Goalkeeper of the Week. It’s the first time since the conference starting recognizing multiple players each week in 2012 that Arizona has had two players recognized in the same week.

These are the first weekly award winners for Arizona since Jill Aguilera on Nov. 8, 2021 – the final week of the 2021 season.

Hisey is the first Arizona goalkeeper to pick-up the weekly honor for the position since Lainey Burdett on Oct. 23, 2018.

Goerlinger is the first Arizona defender to earn the top defensive player award since Samantha Falasco on Aug. 22, 2017. Goerlinger is just the second Arizona defender that’s not a goalkeeper to win the weekly award since the award began in 2014 (Sheaffer Skadsen, Sept. 29, 2015).

In the two wins last week for the Wildcats to open the 2022 season, Hisey registered seven total saves and allowed just one goal. The shutout at Texas Tech was the 15th of her career, which is good for fourth place on the UA career list.

Goerlinger helped organize an Arizona defense that allowed just 9 of 23 total shots to be on goal, and held a historically high-powered Texas Tech attack to just six of 17 shots on goal.

Arizona joined Ohio State as the only women’s soccer programs in the country to record two wins against Power 5 Conference opponents during the opening weekend of the season.
