SAN FRANCISCO—Colorado junior Shyra James scored three goals in the Buffaloes’ 10-goal outburst to start the season, helping her to the season’s first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor to the conference announced on Monday.

James, a native of La Mesa, Calif., ranks third in the NCAA with her three goals in the early goings of the season. She has eight total points to lead the Pac-12 and ranks eighth nationally.

“It was a great start to the season,” head coach Danny Sanchez noted. “Team success always leads to individual recognition. Shyra had a great weekend, and we are excited to see her continue to progress”.

James opened the season with a brace against Weber State, netting goals in the 52nd and 55th minutes of the 5-0 start to the season. She continued to find the back of the net with a header in the 31st minute, resulting in the game-winning goal in the Buffs’ 5-1 win over San Diego.

The third year forward became the first Colorado player to score in six consecutive matches, carrying over from the final four dates of the 2021 season. James’ start to the season has moved her into a tie for eighth all-time on the program’s scoring list with 17 career goals.

It’s the second weekly honor of her career and the first since her freshman season (Mar. 23, 2021).

The Buffaloes will be back in action on Friday, taking on Valparaiso. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
