Short Story: The University at Albany women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday afternoon. For the second consecutive game, the Great Danes out-shot their opponents, this time edging the Hawks 14-12.

 

Key Stat Lines

·      The Great Danes out-shot Monmouth, 14-12. UAlbany also had more shots on goal, 9-8.

·      UAlbany’s Megan Hart recorded five saves, Monmouth’s Cassandra Coster recorded 10 saves.

·      Monmouth had five opportunities off of corner kicks, UAlbany had one.

·      UAlbany finished with 14 fouls, Monmouth finished with 10.

·      Sahara Zingano led the way for the Great Danes with five shots. Olivia Piraino and Brooke Pickett followed with two each.

·      Carly Binn was the only UAlbany player to play all 90 minutes. Piraino and Charlotte Pawli followed, each with 86 minutes played.

 

How it Happened:

·      The Hawks scored early in the contest when Rachel Ludwick found the back of the net via the bottom right side of the goal just seven minutes in. It was the first shot by either team in the game.

·      Monmouth scored again just five minutes before the half when a ball was deflected of a UAlbany player’s foot directly in front of Monmouth’s Kayla Reed, who buried the shot to take a 2-0 advantage.

·      Though down two at the midway point, the Great Danes were still able to apply plenty of pressure in the first half. UAlbany out-shot Monmouth 6-4. Four of UAlbany’s shots were on goal, three of Monmouth’s were on goal. UAlbany’s Megan Hart recorded one save by the halfway point, Monmouth’s Cassandra Coster recorded four.

·      UAlbany recorded seven fouls in the first half, Monmouth recorded five.

·      The Great Danes recorded two shots on goal quickly into the second half on multiple scoring chances, but were unable to convert.

·      UAlbany’s Charlotte Takacsy received a yellow card in the 55th minute of play.

·      Monmouth pushed the lead to 3-0 off the foot of Clara Ford in the 63rd minute of play, delivering on a ball that was centered from the left side.
