Women’s Soccer Blanks Colorado State, 3-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s Soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Colorado State. The Utes had three different players score as the team picked up its first shutout of the season. 
 
“This was a great team win in front of our wonderful fans today,” remarked head coach Hideki Nakada. “Colorado State was very committed to their defensive effort, making it difficult for us to create quality opportunities early. We grew into the game, and our wing and midfield play got better as the game wore on, which allowed us to get us in behind more and score quality goals. I am looking forward to hosting a great Denver team here at Ute Field next Thursday night.” 
 
The Utes Madeline Vergura, Courtney Brown, and Brooklyn Blaylock scored for the Utes, while Evie Vitali and Kasey Wardle combined for the shutout. Vergura and Blaylock’s goals were their first as a Ute. 
 
Early in the contest, the Utes struggled to get anything going on the offensive end. Utah scored the game’s first goal in the 20th minute when the Rams were called for a handball in the box. Vergura took the PK and scored, putting Utah ahead 1-0.
