Bruins Draw With UNLV, 0-0, in Final Preseason Tune Up

LOS ANGELES – Despite a late offensive flurry and a major advantage in the shots department, the No. 23-ranked UCLA men’s soccer team had to settle for a scoreless draw against UNLV in an exhibition contest on Saturday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

The Bruins wrap their 2022 preseason schedule with a 1-0-1 record and a 2-0 goal differential.

UNLV registered the first shot of the contest on Saturday, but the Bruins responded by out-shooting the Rebels 17-0 the rest of the way.

The Bruins had a monopoly on dangerous scoring chances. Redshirt senior midfielder Jose Sosa hit the crossbar in the 39th minute, and redshirt senior forward Kevin Diaz had a pair of Grade-A chances – including a penalty kick – pushed aside by UNLV keeper Andrew Sway in the final 30 seconds of the game.

UCLA officially opens the 2022 season on Thursday, Aug. 25, hosting UC Irvine starting at 7:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the UCLA women’s soccer team.
