August 20, 2022 – Canadian Premier League (CPL)Atletico Ottawa News Release

For the first time ever, Atlético Ottawa are taking on Cavalry FC in Calgary, as they travel to Alberta to take on Cavalry at ATCO Field on Sunday, August 21st.

In their seventh-ever meeting between the two sides, the rest have all either taken place in a bubble, or at Ottawa’s TD Place, giving Ottawa a pretty significant edge in the all-time series. As a result, through their first six meetings, Ottawa has won four, lost one and drawn one, maintaining a pretty good run against them in their history.

This time, however, they’ll be in much tougher to maintain that strong run, as while they are in good form, tied for first in the CPL, Cavalry is hot on their heels in fourth, just one point behind them, and have picked up the most points of any CPL team at home this season.

At the same time, that doesn’t mean it won’t be a challenge that Ottawa won’t be able to rise to. In fact, they’ll probably relish it.

After a chaotic result in midweek, where they picked up a crucial 3-2 win over the HFX Wanderers at the death, Ottawa did well to bounce back from a couple of harsh results in their last few games, which included losses to Pacific FC and Forge FC, sandwiching a tidy 2-0 win over FC Edmonton.

Because of that, as they get set to take on Cavalry in this latest top four clash, they’ll want to continue to make up for those past results, while continuing their good run of form over them historically, giving them the hunger to chase down a result.

“It was a very important three points,” Ottawa’s head coach, Carlos González, said of his team’s win in midweek. “After losing to Pacific, we were in a stage where we knew that we should grab the three points again in front of our fans versus Halifax. So it was really really important to continue to add as many points as possible for the future, and to come into a good dynamic again, which we did.”

Meanwhile, on Cavalry’s side, they’ll be also looking to build off a similarly momentous result, as while their last game came over a week ago, it was a memorable one, as they snatched a massive 2-1 win from Forge FC at the death at home.

As a result, it gave them a nice little boost as they prepared for this game,…
