Connections: Monterey Bay F.C. has several player-to-player connections with New Mexico United, starting with Union midfielder Sam Gleadle, who spent time as teammates with Chris Wehan at Reno 1868 in 2018 while the latter was on loan with the club. Gleadle then saw now-New Mexico midfielder Sergio Rivas join him in Reno for the 2019-2020 campaigns. Other connections are Chris Cortez and New Mexico’s Sam Hamilton teaming up at Phoenix Rising FC in 2017, Hugh Roberts and New Mexico’s Neco Brett both playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in 2018, and Mobi Fehr spending the 2019 season as teammates with then-loanee, now New Mexico forward Tabort Etaka Preston at Las Vegas Lights FC.

Head-to-Head: In the previous match between the sides, Monterey Bay F.C. hosted New Mexico United and played to a 1-1 draw. After the Union struck first with a goal by Chase Boone in the 2nd minute, the visitors equalized just minutes before the halftime break with a goal from Rivas. Following a scoreless second half, the match ended 1-1, marking the first-ever draw in the short history of the Crisp and Kelp.

Notes: The match will mark the first meeting between the sides at Isotopes Park in New Mexico. Monterey Bay F.C. will look to continue its recent dominance defensively against a United side sitting above the playoff line. Monterey Bay F.C. is 4-8-0 this season on the road, while New Mexico United is 3-3-5 at hosts this season.
