Newcastle in danger of losing star man to Real Madrid if Casemiro joins Man Utd

Real Madrid will attempt to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes should Casemiro join Manchester United, according to reports.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Thursday that Casemiro is United’s “dream target” in midfield with their hopes of signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona diminishing.

De Jong has been Erik ten Hag’s number one target all summer, but the player is not keen on the move despite Barcelona accepting a bid in the region of £72million.

Several central midfielders have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

United reportedly agreed a fee with Juventus to sign Adrien Rabiot, but could not come to an agreement on personal terms.

It has been a bizarre transfer window for the Premier League club, who attempted to sign former Stoke City forward Marko Arnautovic from Bologna.

Negative fan reaction to the potential transfer resulted in the club pulling out of a deal, however.

As things stand, the Red Devils are hoping to land Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and/or Casemiro before the transfer window closes.

The news of their interest in Casemiro came as a surprise to some, though there appears to be more hope they can get a deal done than there has been with Rabiot and De Jong.

If the Brazilian moves to Old Trafford, United’s Premier League rivals Newcastle could be negatively affected.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Bruno Guimaraes is Real Madrid’s ‘favourite’ choice to replace Casemiro should he depart this summer.

The Magpies signed the Brazilian midfielder from Lyon for around £38m in the winter transfer window.

The 24-year-old was also linked with a move to Arsenal before swapping the south east of France for the north east of England.

He is already a fan favourite on Tyneside having hit the ground running in the Premier League.

Newcastle obviously don’t need to sell players and Guimaraes appears to be happy at St James’ Park – although it is always very difficult for any player to turn down a move to Real Madrid.

Despite signing Aurelien Tchouameni for £80m this summer and also having Eduardo Camavinga at the club, Carlo Ancelotti will reportedly look to sign a direct replacement for Casemiro if he signs for Manchester United.

AS say that Guimaraes is ‘first’ on Madrid’s list, but it is noted that it is a difficult operation to complete this particular signing.

Having paid close to £40m for the 24-year-old, it is believed that Newcastle would ask for at least double that…
