Man Utd could sanction the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer amid concerns about his impact on club morale, according to a reliable journalist.
The Portugal international has made it clear over the summer that he wants to leave Old Trafford if the club receive a ‘satisfactory’ offer for his services.
That offer has not arrived, in fact there has been very little concrete interest in Ronaldo at all with rumours Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have both made tentative enquiries.

But Ronaldo is still pushing to leave the club with speculation that he has even asked to be released from his contract in order to pursue a move elsewhere.
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs claimed yesterday that Ronaldo could have no choice but to stay and give his best in a World Cup year. He tweeted: ‘Ronaldo’s side clear: he wants to move but without any formal offers he’ll keep playing. He has to in a World Cup year.’
Man Utd are asking for £25m for the striker with that price tag, along with Ronaldo’s wage demands, putting off clubs from making their interest serious.
But BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone, who is well-placed for club sources, insists that ‘concerns about how the striker’s mood is affecting morale in the camp’ could see Man Utd allow Ronaldo to leave before the end of the month.
Stone claims that ‘senior figures have been alarmed at how quickly the overwhelmingly positive feelings around the camp generated during a successful pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia have disappeared.’
Ronaldo missed the pre-season tour over ‘family issues’ and played just 45 minutes against Rayo Vallecano ahead of the new campaign.
A 2-1 opening weekend defeat to Brighton and an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Brentford in their second Premier League match of the season has set alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford.
And some of the blame has been put on Ronaldo’s situation, Stone adds:
‘The Portuguese is said to be a negative presence at the club, hardly communicates with his team-mates in the canteen and has made no secret of his desire to move away.
‘Sources have told BBC Sport they fear there will be no change to United’s current issues until Ronaldo has gone and there is a belief amongst some that even if the forward left and there was no replacement, the general uplift would trigger a significant improvement in overall performances.’
