A ‘shocked’ Erik ten Hag has punished his Man Utd side following their embarrassing 4-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday, according to reports.
The Red Devils were absolutely awful in the first half of their defeat to the Bees, allowing Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo to score a goal each without response.
It is the first time Man Utd have been four goals down at half-time since the Premier League was formed and represented a new low in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

As reported yesterday, Ten Hag was left ‘furious’ with their performance, making the squad come in for an extra training session on their day off on Sunday.
And now the Daily Telegraph claim that a ‘shocked’ Ten Hag agreed ‘with the post-match analysis that they had played “like kids” Ten Hag demanded a response with an intense training session which, surprisingly for the day after a game, included an element of running’.
The report adds:
‘Ten Hag punished his team by making them cover 13.8km (around 8.5 miles) in the training session in 30-degree heat – exactly the distance they collectively ran less than the Brentford players during the game.’
The Man Utd boss now accepts that he could have to ‘accelerate changes’ with the future of Cristiano Ronaldo one dilemma which is still dominating talk.
Ronaldo has ‘strongly divided opinion within United’ with his behaviour ‘being talked about as selfish and damaging by his team-mates’ in the dressing room.
Ten Hag will be left wondering where the goals are going to come from if he grants Ronaldo his wish to leave the club with only injury-prone Martial able to cover as Marcus Rashford – who started up front against Brighton – prefers a wide role.
The Daily Telegraph continues:
‘Ten Hag fully intended to keep him, arguing it would be difficult to replace his goals given there is so much work to do elsewhere in the squad, but that resolve is being tested.’
A decison one way or another now seems imminent with Ronaldo hoping to play Champions League football this season, which Man Utd missed out on by finishing sixth in the Premier League last term.
Despite wanting to leave, there seems a distinct lack of serious interest in Ronaldo with a Saudi Arabian outfit the only club to make a concrete offer for the Portugal international.
