  • Aguero believes Silva would be ‘key’ to Xavi’s plans if he moves to Barcelona

Sergio Aguero has his doubts about whether Manchester City will be willing to let Bernardo Silva join Barcelona this summer, but has conceded that ‘everything is possible’.

The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with the Portuguese midfielder in recent weeks, and there were reports earlier this week that they had agreed a £46million fee with City for his services, but this has subsequently been denied by the English side.

Aguero made the switch from City to Barcelona in the latter stages of his career, and has not dismissed the possibility of Silva following in his footsteps.

The former Argentina striker has claimed that Silva would be a major part of Xavi’s plans at Barcelona if he does move to the Nou Camp.

‘Bernardo is a great player. He carries the ball, he sacrifices, has quality to assist and score goals and he can play in different positions,’ Aguero told Stake, as quoted by Goal.

‘It would surprise me if City let him go. He is a player who contributes a lot every season, but everything is possible.

‘If he finally arrives at Barca, then he will be someone who can be key to the possession game that Xavi likes.’

Silva has been a star performer at City since joining the club from Monaco in 2017, winning four Premier League titles during his five years at the Etihad Stadium.

He was only used as a second-half substitute in the side’s opening game of the season against West Ham on Sunday, but the 28-year-old has insisted that he is happy at his current club.
