Report of Liverpool ‘report’ admits ‘no credible source’ for Tielemans interest they just made up

Liverpool ‘may be front runners to sign Youri Tielemans’, except they’re not because this report of a ‘report’ is absolute nonsense.

Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move away from Leicester this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

MAILBOX: Liverpool would have won more with Reece James than Trent Alexander-Arnold

Asked whether he could leave the King Power Stadium, Tielemans said at the end of last season: “That is not out of the question.

“I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Tielemans – who moved to Leicester for £40m from Monaco in 2019 – has scored 24 goals and 24 assists in 159 appearances for Leicester and was crucial in their consecutive fifth-place finishes in the Premier League in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, and scored a stunning winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in 2021.

Arsenal have reportedly held talks but have been put off by the Foxes’ £32m valuation, and director Edu is now willing to wait until next summer to land him on a free transfer, according to Football London.

But not so fast, Edu, Liverpool might be, but probably aren’t, interested in beating them to the signing of the Belgium international.

That’s according to an incredibly misleading and speculative article in Sports Illustrated.

Here’s the headline: ‘Report: Liverpool May Be Front Runners to Sign Youri Tielemans After Thiago Injury.

So, the ‘may’ would suggest that this is possibly an opinion piece, or quotes from a pundit, but the ‘report’ is intriguing.

It suggests gravitas of some sort, from a Liverpool insider if you’re lucky or at the very least news from another outlet. No such luck.

After a couple of hundred words in which Thiago Alcantara’s injury is discussed and the genuine report that Liverpool will only sign a new midfielder as part of the long-term evolution of midfield is pondered, we reach the crux of the click-garning article.

Right at the very bottom, in the last paragraph, Sports Illustrated concede that the basis of their article is absolute bullsh*t.

‘Will Liverpool go for him? As it stands it’s purely hypothetical as there has been no confirmed bid or even interest from any credible source.’

Isn’t it great?…
