Bernardo Silva says he is “happy” at Manchester City but insists he has “no idea what’s going to happen” amidst Barcelona’s interest in him.
The La Liga giants have signed Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde so far this summer but club president Joan Laporta sees Silva as the final piece of the puzzle.
Barcelona have been able to conduct some crazy business this summer amid their uncertain financial situation.
It is believed that City would not stand in Silva’s way if he says he wants to leave, though the Premier League champions are expected to want around £68million for the Portuguese playmaker.
Their willingness to let unsettled players leave is something that has been a theme of recent transfer windows.
This summer, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko joined Arsenal and Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea, while Ferran Torres moved to Barcelona in January.
Despite City’s friendly stance on things, Barca reportedly lodged a pretty insulting bid worth £46m.
And Silva has been asked about the rumours in the press, insisting he will be “very happy” if he remains in Manchester.
“I’ve always said that I’m happy here, but I have no idea what’s going to happen,” the 28-year-old told ESPN. “We’ll see, honestly.
“My relationship with the club is very honest. I’ve been open with them and they know what I want.
“If I stay, I’m very happy, and I will always respect this club and give all my best. If not, it’s football and we’ll just see what happens.”
Silva adds that his relationship with City will “always” be ‘respectful’ no matter what happens while hinting the club will not stand in their way should he officially ask to join Barcelona – which is something Sky Sports have reported this week.
“It’s a big club, and they don’t want players who are not happy at the club,” he continued. “They always say to all of us that if you’re not happy, you can go.
“Of course, they are in business and they want the right amount of money for letting us go, but personally it’s a relationship with the club that is very respectful. They have always been honest with me and I have always been honest with them.
“As I said, I will always respect my relationship with Man City, with the fans, with the staff, with my teammates, so whatever happens happens and for sure, it will happen in a very respectful way.”
