Atlético Ottawa, of the Canadian Premier League, are pleased to announce they have secured a deal with sister club Atlético de Madrid that will see Spanish defender Sergio Camus complete the 2022 season on loan in the Nation’s Capital.
Camus, a 25-year-old defender, has spent the last season with Atlético de Madrid B and featured in 16 matches. He was also on the bench with the A squad in an early UEFA Champions League match against AC Milan but has yet to see the field in the Primera División. Born in Colindres, Spain, he has developed through the Racing Santander and Arenas Club systems for the first three years of his career. He also spent time with CD Vitoria and Portugalete before signing with Atlético de Madrid in July 2021. The young talent has 84 professional appearances to his name across competitions, but this will mark his first venture outside of his native Spain.
“I am delighted to come and join Atlético Ottawa,” said Camus. “I’ve watched a lot of highlights and some games in the past few days, and I love the connection with the fans. I’m looking forward to joining the team, putting in the hard work, and giving everything I have to help us reach our goals.”

He has demonstrated to be a capable centre back with his biggest strengths being his strong aerial ability and his anticipation in the defensive third.”
Camus is expected to join the team at training this week, while the squad prepares for a quick trip to the West Coast where they will face reigning champions Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium this Saturday, August 13th (KO 5PM ET, live on OneSoccer). Atlético Ottawa will return to play in front of home fans on Wednesday, August 17th as they host the Halifax Wanderers.
